{Never Forgotten}

It’s Memorial Day! That glorious day that we get to spend time with our families, bbq, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Most importantly, we get to remember those proud men and women that have sacrificed their lives for us. We often hear all the negative things that surround us on a daily basis. I tend to err on the positive side. We are a great country, with wonderful things to offer. Cue the music…

And I’m proud to be and American, where at least I know I’m free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.

I loved that song growing up. When I think Memorial Day and the 4th of July I think of this song. In the chaos of the day, we made sure our Princess understood why we were celebrating. She asked questions, we answered, and it was time to party! And party we did.

Memorial Day Celebration

Here’s a breakdown of our Sunday-Funday Memorial Day party {we celebrated yesterday because having fun time on a Monday and going back to work Tuesday is depressing}. I went to Home Depot Saturday and Chris {an awesome employee!} was kind enough to help cut and build the backdrop. Now I can interchange backgrounds as I please for fiestas. Yeah for taking up more garage space. 🙂

For this party, I tried to only use things we had in our house. In the next month, I’ll be organizing a VPK graduation, 4th of July celebration, my Princess’ birthday party, and our annual Sausage Fest. Needless to say, June and July are packed.

Memorial Day Close-Up

On Pinterest {of course} I found a great tutorial for watermelon wands. As cute as they were, I ran out of time and modified the top. We made firecrackers/arrows instead. These would be good for the 4th of July, a hunting themed party, etc. They were a hit with the kids!

Keeping with the use what you have theme, I found this plastic watering can – blue – score! I ‘picked’ some artificial flowers my mom had at her house. Used my Princess’ planting tools and added ribbon. Done. Those cute little Pepsi bottles were at my mom’s house. I grabbed those too.

Memorial Day Centerpiece

What BBQ is complete without cupcakes? Not many I know. Red velvet cupcakes with vanilla cupcakes are the perfect addition to any party.

Memorial Day Cupcakes

My favorite part of our Memorial Day celebration was the Snow Cone maker. One for my good friends Tara gave this to me as a gift. It was the best addition to the nostalgic day. All the kids {and adults} tested it out. It was easy to use and best of all YUMMY!
